ICE still searching for elusive DG

THE INSTITUTION Civil Engineers has so far failed to find a replacement for its Director General & Secretary, Roger Dobson.

Advertisements appeared last November, but Dobson, who retires in July, said this week: No candidate has been selected.

But he emphasised: We are not back to square one, and added that the selection panel was due to meet again shortly.

The panel, chaired by ICE President Sir Alan Cockshaw, includes Roger Sainsbury and Professor George Fleming, designated as the next two ICE presidents, one other member of Council, a local association chairman and the chairman of the national graduates and students committee.

Actual appointment of the DG&S must be made by Council which meets next on 21 April. Roger Dobson has declared his intention to retire in July when he is 62 and at the end of an eight year contract.
