Record numbers were attracted on to the newlook ICE stand at Infrarail 2001 this week with more than 85 requests for membership taken by the Institution team. The ICE's Young Railway Engineer of the Year Award was held during the event, with Simon Perkin beating Simon Jarrett to the £500 first prize with his paper 'Condition monitoring of electrically powered passenger train doors'.

Perkin will receive his medal at the ICE Annual Awards ceremony on 6 November.
