ICE president pleas for Crossrail

ICE president Quentin Leiper has added his weight to pleas to the Government to give the go ahead to London's £15bn Crossrail scheme.

He was one of 100 leading business, industry and political figures who joined the Campaign for Crossrail and declared the scheme was crucial to the economy.

The list also included former ICE president and Cross London Rail Links chairman Doug Oakervee, London Underground managing director Tim O’Toole and London’s Transport Commissioner Peter Hendy.

Others joining a group that is hoping Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly will give the go ahead to the scheme came from the world of business, politics, tourism and construction.

The construction list included Balfour Beatty group managing director Brian Osborne and Civil Engineering Contractors Association director Rosemary Beales.
