ICE past president Prof Roy Severn passes away aged 83

ICE past president Professor Roy Severn died suddenly at home on 25 November, aged 83.

Emeritus professor of civil engineering at the University of Bristol, Severn was a world renowned earthquake engineer as well as a powerful advocate for the civil engineering profession at large. He played an important role in ICE South West activities prior to his retirement in 1995.

He was ICE president from 1990 to 1991.

The Department of Civil Engineering at Bristol University will be organising a celebration of his work in the New Year to which all will be welcome. Further details will be announced later.

Donations can be made in his memory to RedR and Samaritans.
