ICE news

The price of Civil Engineering and other ICE journals is to rise by up to 7% in 2002, after Council approved Thomas Telford's proposals this week.

Cyprus is to get a new ICE Country Representative. Nicos Petrou Sylianou is chief water engineer for the Cyprus Water Development Department. He began his career in the UK with contractor Laing and gained an MSc in Foundation Engineering in 1969 at the University of Birmingham. He became a Member of the ICE in 1973.

UK local authorities are failing to involve the public in planning and implementing municipal engineering projects, according to a special issue (vol. 145 no. 2) of the ICE Municipal Engineering journal.

The issue contains 14 specially commissioned papers that report on the inter-relationship between politicians, the public and municipal engineers.

Summaries of all papers can be read at www. municipalengineer. com and subscribers can download full texts. Non-members can obtain copies from Thomas Telford Journals, tel: (020) 7665 2460.
