Martin Duris has been appointed ICE country representative for the Czech Republic. Duris, 34, is director of Peter Brett Associates International in Prague. He became a Corporate Member of the ICE in June.
The Graduate & Students Papers Competition is to be opened up to international entrants and the age limit abolished in a bid to increase the number of entrants. There will no longer be a minimum length of paper. From next year regional rounds will be held in March and April, with the final held at the ICE in June.
lCE Council has formally approved the Royal Academy of Engineering Guidelines for Warnings on Preventable Disasters, first drafted in 1991 by the late ICE president Edmund Hambly. The guidelines set out the appropriate course of action for engineers who give warnings to the public, or receive information about preventable disasters. They were recommended to engineers in the 13th Report of the Standing Committee on Structural Safety (SCOSS), published in 2001.
