LONDON CIVIL engineers could soon be getting local association updates over the air-waves if, as proposed, radio station Heart FM follows up its successful tieup with the Midlands Association with a new one in the capital.
The deal would round off in style Midlands Association chairman Colin Clinton's 'year of change' as his term of office comes to an end.
Clinton, who from one 'cold call' was responsible for forging the Midlands Association's highly successful partnership with Heart FM (NCE 23 March), ends his year determined to see the initiative copied by Midland's and Heart's London sisters.
'Doing things that are relevant' is what this year has been about, explains Clinton. 'A lot of what the the ICE does is done for the sake of doing it. I wanted to change that.'
This Clinton has done, first by completely revamping the annual dinner - removing the usual pomp and getting a sell-out as a result, and now by scrapping the traditional chairman's letter to members and replacing it with a postcard for feedback.
But it is the deal with Heart that has been the most radical change. This now enters its second year with a number of new initiatives on the horizon.
Both parties are keen to see a link between websites developed, and Heart FM is keen to get involved in the distribution of the ICE's interactive CD-ROM for schools (NCE 6 January) - due for launch in the new year.
Heart will also be looking at utilising the partnership to help its market research, which will be in addition to the marketing benefit that the deal has brought.
The deal, says Heart FM's Nigel Ackroyd, has 'opened our eyes to what's happening'.
Ackroyd explains that knowing what city developers are planning before it hits the papers has proved a winner with its advertisers.
But it is the raised profile of the Institution that is the real winner. Taking this to London is the new challenge.
