ICE News: River Yangtse

A detailed report on the Chinese government's bid to dam the mighty River Yangtse appears in the latest issue (vol 144 no 1) of the ICE Civil Engineering journal. The £15bn Three Gorges project, now half way to completion, involves construction of a 183m high 2.3km long concrete gravity dam. When finished it will impound a 660km long reservoir, displacing 1.1M people. Copies of this and all other articles can be obtained from the ICE library.
