Fourteen experts, including lawyers, developers, underwriters and officials from DETR met with ICE President Roger Sainsbury recently to discuss treatment and remediation of contaminated land.

An exhibition on the Civil Engineering Manager of the Year Award is being held in the foyer of One Great George Street.

Local associations will this week receive copies of a 15-minute video presentation by ICE senior vice president Professor George Fleming on 'Engineering Human Potential'. Copies of the video will also be available on loan from the ICE Library.

ICE was an active contributor to a website debate which took place on 25 October on the web of the Movement for Innovation. The subject of the debate was Respect for People. The website address is: http://www.m4i.org.uk.

ICE is to meet with producers of the BBC's Blue Peter programme to discuss ways in which the programme can promote civil engineering.

The need for a code of practice to cover design of ro-ro ramps and linkspans, considered especially important in the aftermath of the Ramsgate collapse will be discussed at a half- day Maritime Board meeting at ICE on 18 November. Call Anne-Marie Ferguson (0171) 665 2232.
