Representatives from Greater Birmingham, ICE Midlands, the UK government, the China International Contractors Association and the UK Trade & Investment Regeneration Investment Organisation, gathered at ICE’s headquarters following a special “Birmingham Investment Showcase”.
Birmingham civic leaders set out over £1bn investment opportunities to some of China’s largest contractor organisations, developers and investors at the event, which took place during President Xi Jinping’s recent state visit to London.
High Speed 2 (HS2) was the focus for the presentations. Greater Birmingham will be the only UK region to have two HS2 terminals. It also has HS2’s construction headquarters and the National College for High Speed Rail, which will be producing a new generation of engineers.
The event, organised by the UK Trade & Investment Regeneration Investment Organisation, follows an Employee Exchange Scheme which was agreed by ICE and Chinca in September.
The deal will see employees from Chinese and UK companies develop new skills and insight into each country’s infrastructure development.
