ICE gets tough with late subs payers

ICE FINANCE director Ian Powney this week reminded all members who had not yet paid their 2002 subscription that they risked being cut off NCE 's circulation list.

The move, he said, was in line with council's recent decision to 'get tough' with late payers.

Only a short amnesty will be allowed before members would stop receiving the magazine, he added.

'We would much rather spend money on better services like publications and meetings, than what should be an unnecessary cost of chasing bad payers, ' said Powney.

He highlighted that, so far, more than 60% of members had paid their subs - a massive improvement on last year when only 26% had paid by the end of the January deadline, and on the year before when just 13% paid on time.

The new MEMSYS membership database, he said, had helped in this process.

Powney added that there had also been a 20% increase in the number of members paying by direct debit. This allows payments to be spread over three months between January and March.
