ICE deserves more media recognition

It is unfortunate that Robin Stelfox (NCE 22 February) came away with the impression that the Institution of Civil Engineers was not involved with the Design Museum exhibition on Brunel.

In reality use was made of our archives and I contributed a piece on the Thames Tunnel to the accompanying book.

It is a frequent complaint of members that the Institution of Civil Engineers does not get sufficient mention in the media.

From the perspective of my colleagues in the library and information services who assist the media on an almost daily basis it is difficult to see how we could do more.

Unfortunately, when we are credited it is frequently as part of catalogue of acknowledgements, which does not necessarily reflect our own efforts adequately.
