BOOSTING CIVIL engineering's image is the key skill highlighted by the ICE for its new director of communications in adverts set to appear in this weekend's press.
The new post will replace Julien Parrott, who quit as combined communications and regional operations director in March to set up his own public relations business (NCE 7 March).
According to ICE vice president for communications, Colin Clinton, the ideal candidate would have a marketing and public relations background.
But a solid knowledge of the industry is also sought to enable the new director to become a 'dynamic voice' for the profession.
The key role to 'enhance the image of civil engineering, civil engineers, and the ICE' is one of five main tasks set out for the new director. This will be achieved in part by 'developing and directing the repositioning of the ICE brand, locally, nationally, and internationally', the advert explains.
Another major role will be to highlight the benefits of membership which it says 'engages all members to celebrate the achievements of civil engineering and civil engineers'.
Responsibility for regional operations will remain with the communications director. However, responsibility for regional liaison officers will move to professional development director Jon Prichard.
'This will give a strong signal to graduates training towards professional review that the RLOs are firmly up to speed with the latest thinking of the Institution, ' Parrott said.
The ICE is looking to interview applicants in June, and make a final appointment by the end of the summer.
