HSE plans annual roll of dishonour

THE HEALTH & Safety Executive plans an annual naming and shaming of firms that ignore health and safety law.

From next year, HSE will publish the names of firms and individuals convicted of breaches over the previous 12 months.

The list will appear as a supplement alongside the Health & Safety Commission's annual report, detailing the kinds of offence committed. It will also be published on the HSE's web site so that 'those who flout their legal responsibilities and put people's lives at risk face the full glare of publicity'.

As well as convictions, the supplement will list 'Crown censures', events where Crown immunity prevents prosecution.

HSE deputy director general David Eves said: 'This initiative should underline the fact that the HSE will do everything in its power to highlight those companies - or individuals - that fail to properly protect their employees and others.'
