The No Hopers failed to live up to their name as the team won the final of this year's national Graduates & Students five-a-side football tournament. Urged on to battle hard to qualify from their group, the Northern Irish team may have taken this too literally, as one of their players was sent off for violent conduct. Despite being a man down, the No Hopers won their way through the heats to the final against Scottish representatives, First Engineering, and retained the title with a 4-1 victory. The wooden spoon went to the Ove Arup team (Midlands G&S) who lost all three games in their group, 7-2, 9-0 and 7-3.
