Hong Kong Highways Department

The Hong Kong Highways Department has twice extended the deadline for the submission of bids to build the record breaking Stonecutters Bridge.

Bids were due back by the end of November, but the five international bridge consortia were given until 12 December.

Three of the joint ventures have British participation: Balfour Beatty is in partnership with Mitsui, the Kajima Corporation and Lam; Cleveland Bridge has joined forces with Dragages, Gammon Skanska and Ishikawajima-Harima Industries; and Costain has teamed up with China Harbour and the JFE Corporation. The other two bidders are Far Eastern joint ventures.
