Serpentine Pavilion design unveiled

A “simple” engineered structure has been unveiled as this year’s eleventh Serpentine Gallery Pavilion.

A pavilion is built every year to a design by a different internationally acclaimed architect who has yet to complete a building in England. This year’s gallery is designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor.

Arup provided all the engineering design.

Arup director Ed Clark said that this year’s pavilion is more about the garden enclosed by the structure than the structure itself.

“The challenges lay in the subtlety of the detail, choice of materials and the process of construction,” he said.
