Hinkley Point deal could be among £30bn of Chinese investments

A major announcement on a deal between EDF and its Chinese partners on Hinkley Point C is one of the deals anticipated as China president Xi Jinping starts his UK visit.

According to Downing Street, the £30bn of trade and investment deals to be completed during the visit will create more than 3,900 jobs.

An announcement on an agreement with EDF on Hinkley Point C is expected during a UK and China business summit at Mansion House on Wedensday, although EDF is not expected to announce a final investment decision on the new nuclear project just yet.

Chinese investment announcements supporting the Northern Powerhouse are also xpected when prime minister David Cameron and president Jinping visit Manchester at the end of the week.
