Highways maintenance transfer to county council

Responsibility for highways maintenance in Kent will transfer to the county council in April, despite objections from district councils. Kent is the only area in England where districts carry out highway functions, but this will change next year when the county council assumes control of resurfacing and repairs. The county believes the move will cut duplication of roles and boost public understanding. But some district councils, including Sevenoaks, expressed concern that local services will suffer.
