Highways Agency extends Mac contract

The Highways Agency has awarded that it has awarded joint venture A-one+’s five-year Managing Agent Contractor (Mac) a £120M extension, NCE can now confirm.

The joint venture, which is made up of consultant Halcrow and contractors Colas and Costain, will be extended by two years. The firms will be responsible for operational and routine maintenance and improvements on the East Midlands’ motorways and trunk roads.

“A-one+ has worked hard over recent months to identify initial efficiency improvements that will generate significant financial savings to the Highways Agency,” said Halcrow’s director for highways and bridges. “This extension will also provide an excellent opportunity to shape and develop innovative asset management procurement models for the future.”

Costain chief executive Andrew Wylie previously told NCE that the joint venture would be unaffected by the contractors merger with May Gurney
