Head-on train collision leaves five injured in Austria

A head-on collision between two commuter trains has injured five passengers near Vienna this morning.

The crash occurred on a single track in Penzing district of Vienna at 8.45am local time, according to Austrian Railways.

The recovery effort involved around 25 fire engines as well as air ambulances with many of the injured extracted from the wreckage of the crash using special cranes, according to local reports.

There is no information at present about why both trains were on the same track.
