ANALYSIS

The decision to cancel PEI funding questions the commitment of the Institution to the promotion of the engineering profession in the regions by working in partnership. It would appear we are reverting to each Institution ploughing its own furrow in regional affairs when a united front is required to rescue our declining profession.

While it is recognised the commitment of the Institution to the PEI concept was transitional to establish 'a lasting new relationship', it can hardly have been envisaged that support would be withdrawn so quickly without an attempt to strengthen and improve the new regional structure.
