Handbook aids flood prediction

UP TO DATE flood pattern estimates across the country are key to preventing disasters like the 1998 Easter floods, according to the authors of a new handbook for design engineers.

The Flood estimation handbook has been produced by the Natural Environment Research Council in association with the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries & Food and the ICE and claims to use improved techniques for estimating flood frequency.

The CD-ROM based system provides digitally mapped catchment information to give hydrologists more scope to apply vital personal judgment.
