Hammersmith flyover upgrades to begin in November

Transport for London (TfL) is due to begin vital upgrade work on the A4 Hammersmith Flyover in west London next month.

Engineers will begin working on the 1960s-built, four span flyover in November after tests in 2008 revealed the condition of internal cables which help to keep the spans in place were worse than anticipated.

TfL will begin strengthening the bridge spans in November, allowing the structure to remain open for the next few years, while a more permanent option is developed.

The temporary repairs will be finished by summer 2012.
