Halton Borough Council has extended its bridge maintenance contract with contractor Balfour Beatty by two years.
The extension was awarded following an assessment of the contractor’s subsiduary Balvac over the first three and a half years of the contract. During this time the contractor completed over £20M of maintenance, repair and strengthening to a number of structures including the Silver Jubilee Bridge.
Future works are expected to be worth a further £3-5M and will include concrete repairs, cathodic protection, steelwork repainting and bridge deck refurbishment.
“This latest contract extension is the result of the long and successful collaborative working relationship between Balvac and Halton Borough Council,” said Balvac director Richard Bailey.
