Gwynt y Môr wind farm foundations reach the century mark

Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm developer RWE npower has announced that work on the 100th steel monopile foundation has been completed.

When complete at the end of 2014, the 160 turbine wind farm is expected to generate 576MW of energy and will supply around 400,000 homes in Wales.

“The installation of 100 complete foundations is a significant milestone for the wind farm project,” said RWE npower renewables Gwynt y Môr project director Toby Edmonds. “All of the 160 wind turbines require a bespoke foundation so each has been individually fabricated to fit the seabed conditions and water depth at each location. Foundation installation activity will continue in Liverpool Bay into next year.”
