Grout expectations

Further to Stuart Littlejohn's brief history of compensation grouting 'The grout stuff', (NCE 16 November) it will come as no surprise to learn that Roger Bullivant had been compensation grouting in the UK for many years prior to Stuart's proffered date of 1992.

When I joined the company in 1984 there were at least three teams who did little else but grout beneath domestic and commercial oors.

I remember well my scepticism that such a technique could actually raise oors and walls back to their intended level and even more my surprise when Jim Murphy and Terry Rankin rst showed me that it actually worked.

David F Colven (M), group risk manager, Roger Bullivant, uk
