Ground report

British Geological Surveys Address Linked Geological Inventory provides low cost desk study reports on ground conditions for industry professionals and home owners, with a typical turnaround of two days.

Data searches are made within a 400km radius of a given property address and postcode (or grid reference for greenfield sites), using 70 different types of map-based data. Reports for properties in urban areas are accompanied by 1:10000 geological maps, those for rural areas by 1:50,000.

It currently covers Bristol and London, and is set to be available in the West Midlands soon. While not available to the general public directly, BGS is intending to license it to local authorities for their own use, with the possibility that in the future the service will be available on the Internet.

Three types of report are available, all for below 30: The Geological Report, the Home Buyers report (including a radon report) and a radon report.

Aimed at building professionals, the geological report provides information of the search area, along with locations of manmade deposits, such as landfill and the levels of risk of mining related subsidence.
