Grontmij posts strong results for first quarter of 2009

Dutch consultant Grontmij today posted strong results for the first quarter of 2009, thanks to its focus on highly regulated and publicly funded sectors such as water, transport and energy.

Total revenue across the firm’s Europe-wide business was €208.5M (£103.5M) compared to €195.9M (£172.4M) for the first quarter of 2008.

Pre-tax profit was only slightly up, from €13.1M (£11.5M) in 2008 to €13.6M (£12M) for the first three months of this year.

Key to Grontmij’s success in the UK in 2009 so far has been the award and/or extension of framework contracts in the water sector worth £50M for Scottish Water, Severn Trent Water, Anglian Water and United Utilities, plus road contracts for the £310M M80 PFI in Scotland and the N2 in Ireland.
