Green signal for rail-mounted rig

RAILTRACK HAS granted engineering acceptance and route acceptance certification for UK foundation contractor Aarsleff Piling's rail-mounted piling rig (Ground Engineering May 2001).

The rig is based on equipment developed by Aarsleff Piling's Danish parent Per Aarsleff which has been used for over 20 years on Danish, Spanish, Polish, Swedish, and Italian state railways.

Aarsleff believes the rig is the only rail-mounted piling rig to have full certification and approval for use on UK and mainland European rail networks.

It is designed to be hauled in train formation outside of possessions at up to 96.5kmh and to be self-propelled at up to 16kmh inside possessions. It can handle, pitch and drive piles up to 6m long in a single piece and up to 4.25m away from the track centre line. All piling operations are controlled from the operator's cab.
