Going the distance

THE NUMBER of engineering courses done by distance learning will rocket in the next few years, academics are predicting.

Newly launched distance learning MSc courses in bridge and structural engineering are to headline in the University of Surrey's Civils show. MSc courses in civil engineering, and water and environmental engineering are to be offered later this year.

City of Bath College meanwhile, will be spotlighting its highways engineering course at Civils in a bid to increase student uptake from overseas. Growth in roads building activity across eastern Europe is creating demand for specialist engineering skills, said open learning programmes co-ordinator Clare Elliott.
