British pioneer of structural glass engineering Dewhurst Macfarlane & Partners has scooped the British Consultants & Construction Bureau's award for Small Consultancy Firm of the Year with its spectacular David L Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, USA. The firm has pushed the frontiers of facade engineering with a glazing system suspended from cables.
At the same time as dealing with differential movement between the facade and the rest of the structure, Dewhurst Macfarlane has created the US's lowest energy convention hall. Mouchel Parkman was named Large Consultant of the Year for design and construction supervision of the £60M Addis Ababa Ring Road in Ethiopia. Contractors Lagan International and Mivan shared Construction Firm of the Year for the redevelopment of Gan Airport in the Maldives and social housing in Romania.
