GLA signs up civil engineer

CIVIL ENGINEER Samantha Heath was appointed to the Greater London Assembly this week.

Until she signed up for her new role on Monday, Heath was a lecturer in design and construction management at Greenwich University.

She was also a councillor in Wandsworth and worked for her husband's management consultancy business.

Heath told NCE that her main concerns as a Labour GLA member would be planning development, construction, transport, housing and waste disposal and said this could mean going head to head with Government policy.

'Our job now is to work with the Mayor for the benefit of Londoners as well as supporting the Labour manifesto.

There will be sticking points and we will not shy away from them, ' she said.

Heath studied civil engineering at Herriot Watt University.
