Gift of the gab

Ruby Kitching's views on the ICE gift shop's gender and age bias (NCE last week) are clearly relevant, but I have to say that I was way ahead of her.

Some years ago in a moment of quiet contemplation I compiled my own list of appropriate gifts. Unfortunately I flushed it away, but this article has encouraged me to recall some of the less outrageous items - all to bear the ICE legend of course, for maximum exposure.

Car rear window stickers, eg Engineers are better than chocolate

IKB branded cigars

Isambard the Engine toy trains made from recycled railway sleepers

Life-size inflatable famous engineer figures

Mr and Mrs Brunel 'in/out' wall-mounted climate change forecasters

Executive-quality chewable book page markers

Knitted Fair Isle pc mouse cosies and executive mobile phone deadeners.

Bob Pritchard (ret), 7 Lovedale Crescent, Edinburgh Editor's note: Many suggestions for potential gift ideas have been received.

Rest assured that all have been passed to the ICE for consideration.
