Geotechnical lab founded in Ireland

A GEOTECHNICAL testing laboratory has been set up in Carlow, Ireland.

National Materials Testing Laboratory (NMTL) carries out a range of testing for site investigation contractors, consultants and civil engineering and building contractors in Ireland, the UK and Europe.

The firm is managed by Billa Chana, who formerly worked for site investigation firms Soil Mechanics and Surrey Geotechnical Consultants carrying out testing for high-profile projects in the UK and overseas.

NMTL is involved in a research project with University College Dublin to build a robust bender element system. This will eventually be incorporated into the firm's stress path and small strain system and be made available to commercial clients.
