Funding for 21 coastal projects

Ministers have awarded £1.7M to projects to repair small ports and harbours damaged by the winter storms.

Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin revealed the funding for 21 projects around the coast of England.

Schemes in Cornwall and Devon will receive the majority of the cash, with other projects dotted around the South and East coasts.

McLoughlin said: “Our small ports are vital to the livelihoods of the communities they serve and are the lifeblood of the local economy.

“The government has already provided significant funding to reverse the damage caused by an exceptionally wet and windy winter. I want to see this additional money help the recovery in these coastal towns.”
