Fugro to work on first US offshore wind farm

Fugro has been appointed as the lead contractor to undertake geotechnical and geophysical surveying work for Cape Wind, the US’s first offshore wind farm, at Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound.

“Our geotechnical programme this summer on Horseshoe Shoal begins our detailed design engineering and construction phase,” said Cape Wind president Jim Gordon. The offshore programme will involve up to 50 scientists, engineers, archeologists and geologists using specialised vessels.

According to Fugro, the company secured the contract on the basis of its experience gained in working on European offshore wind farm projects.
