Fugro awarded European Spaceport investigation

French space agency Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) has awarded a contract to Fugro to carry out a ground investigation at the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.

The work at the Centre Spatial Guyanais site, which is home to the Ariane space programme, will include integrated geophysical investigation using multicomponent seismic (3C) technique. Fugro has said that seismic specialists from the company’s Engineering Geophysics Service Line are carrying out data acquisition and interpretation while Fugro Seismic Imaging is undertaking data processing using advanced workflows developed for shallow multicomponent seismic analysis.

Reported data on rockhead characterisation will be used to optimise foundation design for new developments planned at the site.
