Van Elle's Smartfoot posttensioned modular foundation system was put through its paces for Sunderland-based housing builder Rosedale Machin on a recent development of ten houses. Van Elle installed 74, 220mm diameter steel cased driven piles, together with 320 linear metres of posttensioned Smartfoot precast modular blocks.

The system allows bricklayers to start the blockwork and installation of precast concrete beam and block flooring immediately the precast Smartfoot units are in place - in this case allowing completion up to dpc in under three weeks. And as an added bonus, installation was unaffected by wet weather, says Van Elle's Paul Jones, because the process is entirely precast.
