Fortune teller

Thanks to Douglas Oakervee for the award of the President's Medal for 2004 (reported last week) and for NCE's epithet of 'Civil Engineer of the Year'.

My perceived success is purely down to luck - a career path that suited last year's circumstance of a spate of serious blackouts following a well grounded State of the Nation report on energy and outputs from a high quality Energy Board.

One correction: Energy management in ScottishPower does indeed have an annual turnover of some £3bn - its successful management, however, falls to my managing director and not me.

Thankfully, my role as business transformation director is somewhat easier.
