The Forth Road Bridge will have to be closed to lorries from 2013 unless corroded cables are replaced or the structure is strengthened, the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA) said last week. Scottish Parliament transport minister Tavish Scott has ordered an independent assessment into how the corrosion will be dealt with. Consultant Faber Maunsell has examined the corroded cables and will report in summer 2007.
