Of course the government should re-open the fire testing facility at Cardington (News last week).

It is fortunate that this listed building still exists and is large enough to accommodate full scale reality tests for which computer simulation would be a poor replacement.

We are in danger of computers replacing our engineering knowledge. They should be our servants not our masters.
