News stand - what the papers say

Transport secretary Stephen Byers is to urge chancellor Gordon Brown to find extra money to sort out the rail industry as part of this autumn's spending review.

Transport group National Express is expected to announce this week that is has reached agreement with Railtrack over compensation losses arising from disruption caused by the Hatfield derailment last October.

Industry sources expect compensation to be in the region of £15M.

Environmental groups Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace are preparing legal action against a possible government decision to approve a £470M plutonium recycling plant at Sellafield.
