Final Crossrail tunnel segment cast

Crossrail has announced that the final precast tunnel segment for its tunnels has been cast at the specially built factory in Chatham, Kent.

The segment is the last of 250,000 pieces that have been cast over the course of the scheme.

Production was split between three sites with the Chatham facility serving the eastern tunnels, another at Royal Oak that served the western tunnels and segments for the Thames Tunnel and north Kent tunnels were manufactured in Ireland.

Crossrail has said that tunnel work on the scheme is now 82% complete.
