Fellows pick up on ceremony success

SUCCESS OF the membership certificate presentation ceremony has prompted the Institution to plan a similar event for new Fellows.

One hundred and eight newly qualified members of the Institution were officially welcomed by President Sir Alan Cockshaw at Great George Street earlier this month.

'The ceremony was an absolute joy,' Cockshaw told last week's Council meeting. 'I do not know why we didn't do it 30 years earlier.

'And it has prompted the Fellowship Panel to suggest that members transferring to fellows be part of the same ceremony.'

Cockshaw formally proposed the idea to Council who voted unanimously in favour.

The fellowship ceremony will be part of a major drive agreed at Council to recruit more engineers to the upper grade of Institution membership. Cockshaw asked for Council to recommend Members who should, because of their reputation and experience, be Fellows. He will then write to them all and encourage them to make the change. Council supported the proposal.
