Falling concrete bridge section kills family in the US

A family of three in the US has been tragically killed after a massive section of concrete fell from a bridge on to their truck.

The accident happened on Monday morning in Bonney Lake, Washington state in the US. According to local media reports a contractor was working on the bridge on State Route 410 when a section, which was understood to be between 25m and 30m long, detached and fell, hitting the vehicle.

Investigations are now underway to establish how and why the accident happened. Workers spent much of Monday clearing the scene and Department of Transportation engineers inspected the bridge platform before deeming it safe to open.
