Experts revise piling and retaining wall texts

A PANEL of industry experts is revisiting the Institution of Civil Engineers' Specification for Piling and Embedded Retaining Walls (SPERW) (Thomas Telford, 1996) and its support document, The essential guide to the ICE SPERW (Thomas Telford, 1999).

The panel has representatives from the Federation of Piling Specialists, Buro Happold, Arup, the Highways Agency and Network Rail. Work will be funded by the Highways Agency, Network Rail and Thomas Telford.

The aim is to publish the revised specifi cation by 2006. The panel is calling for industry comment on the limitations of the document and constructive suggestions for its update.
