Executive secretary builds on Welsh devolution

Ice News; South Western regional round up

The ICE is advertising for an executive secretary for Wales this week.

Council gave approval last June to set up a new association covering the devolved area of Wales and an executive secretary will be in place as soon as possible. Discussions are continuing as to whether the North West and Midlands associations will be giventhe option of joining the Wales association, which will include a North Wales branch.

ICE chief executive Mike Casebourne commented: 'This important appointment clearly indicates the determination of the Institution to help our members in the regions.' It is intended that the new executive secretary may be able to liaise with the new Welsh Assembly. Members were briefed on civil engineering issues by ICE South Wales as part of the PEI in Wales at a special reception recently. Topics discussed included ways to attract more young people, especially women, into engineering professions.
