Environmental awards top £2bn

More than £2bn worth of business has been approved by Ceequal environmental quality awards since the scheme's launch in 2003.
Ceequal assesses how well a project deals with environmental challenges. Projects are awarded scores, with minimum environmental compliance receiving a score of zero. To win an award, projects must score at least 25% of the possible maximum score, while excellent ratings have to score 75% or more of the possible maximum.The scheme was developed by the ICE, and more than 60 projects have been assessed, representing a total construction value of just more than £2 bn. Fourteen projects have completed the scheme and received awards.Ceequal Chief Executive Roger Venables will report on the positive influence of Ceequal on the construction industry at the forthcoming Civils 2006.Ceequal Ltd is jointly owned by the ICE, BRE, British Waterways, CIRIA, the Civil Engineering Contractors' Association, CIWEM, Costain, Crane Environmental, Hyder Consulting, Responsible Solutions, Temple Environmental and WSP Group.
