Engineering should be fun and well paid

Letters

The president is correct in raising the issue of a minimum starting salary for civil engineers. It would be a good first step in trying to improve the appeal of the industry.

The common statement that 'civil engineering does not pay well but is rewarding in other ways' is nonsense. I know plenty of accountants and computer programmers who enjoy their job but also get paid twice as much.

Many of the graduates from my year have left civil engineering for other jobs which are just as fulfilling but much better paid.
